Lisianthus - Eustoma

(Lisianth'us)

DESCRIPTION: This is an erect plant that grows 1 to 2½ feet high. Its waxy, blue-green foliage is ovate or oblong and grows up to 3 inches long. The mainly grow toward the base of the plant. The beautiful flowers may be single or double and they resemble Canterbury bells and tulips. They grow 2 to 3 inches across and are colored blue, white, pink, lavender or rose and are often bicolored.

POTTING: They need sun half the day or more and well-drained soil, which is moist to on the dry side.

PROPAGATION: Seeds may be sown indoors at a 68- to 77-degree temperature, 10 to 12 weeks before it's safe to plant them outdoors. Don't cover the seeds; they need light to germinate. Set out transplants when they are available, because this plant isn't easy to start from seed.
