DESCRIPTION: This tender perennial is a native of Thailand. It forms clumps of mid-green, lance-shaped leaves, which have a heart-shaped base and are slightly hairy underneath. Its small flowers are produced intermittently in dangling sprays. They are yellow with large, reflexed, reddish-purple bracts. This plant grows up to 3 feet high with a spread of 1 foot.

POTTING: This plant needs a minimum temperature of 65 degrees. If you live in cool climates, it may be grown as a house or greenhouse plant in containers filled with humus-rich soil or potting mix that is moist but well-drained. It needs a fairly humid atmosphere. Water it abundantly while it is growing actively; less when it is dormant in the winter.
PROPAGATION: Divide this plant or sow seeds in the spring.
