Dipteronia
(Dipteron'ia)
DESCRIPTION: This group consists of two large, deciduous shrubs found wild in central and southern China. They are related to the Maple, though they differ in that the fruits are winged all around instead of just one side. D. sinensis is a shrub with handsome, large, pinnate leaves. The unnoticeable flowers are followed by large bunches of decorative, light green seeds that eventually turn red.
POTTING: These shrubs will grow well in any good, loamy soil.
PROPAGATION: Seeds, cuttings and layering are good methods of propagation.
VARIETIES: D. sinensis.
