Decumeria

DESCRIPTION: This group consists of two semi-evergreen or evergreen shrubs that climb by means of aerial roots. They are found growing over logs and on tree trunks in the wild. D. barbara is a fairly tender, semi-evergreen shrub that climbs up to 30 feet. From early to mid-summer, small clusters of small, white, sweetly scented flowers are borne. This plant is found wild in the southeastern United States. D. sinensis is a rare, tender, evergreen shrub growing up to 16 feet. The small, honey scented, green and white flowers grow in clusters, in the spring. This climbing shrub is a native of China.
POTTING: Decumerias can be grown in any soil in sun or partial shade.
PROPAGATION: Cuttings may be inserted in containers of sandy soil underneath a hand light in a frame, in the summer.
VARIETIES: D. barbara; D. sinensis.
