CHELIDONIUM (Chelidonium)

DESCRIPTION: This hardy perennial is native to Europe and Asia and is naturalized in eastern North America. It is also known as Celandine, Greater Celandine, or Swallow Wort. C. majus variety Flore Pleno grows 2 or 3 feet high with a spread of 1 foot. It is an erect plant with bright green, deeply cut leaves having rounded lobes. Its bright yellow flowers are small, cupped, double, and about an inch across. They are produced on thin, branching stems in late spring and early summer.

POTTING: Grow this plant in well-drained soil in sun or mottled shade.

PROPAGATION: Seeds may be sown or they may be divided in the fall. These plants reseed themselves freely, so take care that they don't become a pesky nuisance.
