Brachycome - Swan River Daisy

(Brachy'come)

DESCRIPTION: This is a beautiful annual from Australia, which belong to the Daisy family, Compositae. It grows about a foot high. The leaves are bright green, delicate and feathery looking, much like a fern. The flowers resemble daisies, are the size of a nickel and may be blue, rose, white or mauve. The centers are black, or nearly so. These are produced during the summer. Brachycome are pretty plants for edging, rock gardens and pots in the greenhouse.

POTTING: This plants will thrive in well-drained, moist soil in a sunny position.

PROPAGATION: Seeds may be started inside at 70 degrees, 6 to 8 weeks before planting outside or they can be sown directly outdoors where they are to grow and bloom as soon as the soil is warm and there is no danger of frost. Either way, they should be thinned to 6 inches apart. They can be sown in September and eventually transplanted to 5-inch pots, if they are to grow in a greenhouse.
