BERKHEYA
DESCRIPTION: This upright perennial is found in the damp, rocky grasslands in the Drakensberg Mountains, Natal. It is scantily branched and covered with slender, deeply and irregularly lobed, spiny, dark green leaves. The flowers resemble Daisies and they have a spiny calyx beneath; they are bright yellow centered with orange-yellow. They grow on branching, spiny-leaved stems throughout the summer. This plant grows up to 3 feet high and wide.
POTTING: Grow this plant in fertile, moist soil that has adequate drainage, in a warm, sunny, protected location.
PROPAGATION: Seeds may be sown or they may be divided in the spring.
VARIETIES: B. macrocephala.
