Asteranthera
DESCRIPTION: This group consists of only one species of evergreen creepers. A. ovata is an attractive, trailing plant that can climb by means of aerial roots. It can be grown up walls and trees or used as a ground cover. The small leaves of this plant have a more or less round shape. Its tubular-shaped, two-lipped flowers grow from the axils of the leaves, in early summer. They are 2 inches long and colored red with white throats.
POTTING: This plant can be grown in mild climates only. It needs cool, neutral or acid soil, in a sheltered location or against a north-facing wall.
