ASTELIA

DESCRIPTION: This small group consists of attractive, evergreen, clump-forming perennials that are native to the Pacific Islands, New Zealand and Australia. A. nervosa (Kakaha) produces tufts of long, sword-shaped, sage green leaves that are noticeably veined. The tiny, but fragrant flowers are borne in compact, branching panicles in late summer. There are male and female plants, the female bearing orange berries.

POTTING: These plants will grow in any average, well-drained soil, in tropical climates.
