Aristotelia - New Zealand Wineberry

DESCRIPTION: This group consists of tender, evergreen trees and shrubs that are mostly natives of South America and Australasia. A. chilensis var. Variegata is a medium-sized to large shrub with 5-inch leaves that are mottled with yellow. Male and female flowers usually grow on separate plants. The berries of these plants are edible.
POTTING: These plants can be grown in any average soil in tropical climates, though they may need some protection even where they are hardy.
PROPAGATION: Cuttings of ripe wood may be inserted in a propagating bed in a closed atmosphere.
VARIETIES: A. chilensis & var. Variegata; A. fruticosa; A. Macqui (flowers - greenish); A. racemosa (New Zealand Wineberry, flowers - pink.).
