Araujia
(Arau'jia)
DESCRIPTION: This is a South American climbing plant that is suitable for growing in a greenhouse free of frost or outside in mild climates. In colder areas it is great for planting outside in the summer and then lifting and growing them in a cool, light greenhouse or sunroom during the winter. This plant can grow up to 20 feet tall and it bears small, white flowers in July.
POTTING: The best soil to use for planting in pots is two-thirds loam, one-third leaf mold and a bit of sand added. In February, the side shoots of the previous summer's growth should be cut back to within three or four buds of the stem.
PROPAGATION: Fresh shoots can be cut in March and April and be placed in a greenhouse. Seeds will germinate easily in a 60-degree temperature.
VARIETIES: A. sericofera.
