ANEMONOPSIS (Anemonop'sis)
DESCRIPTION: This perennial, also known as the False Anemone because of its close resemblance to those plants. (See Anemone.)This plant forms clumps of finely divided, shiny, dark green leaflets, looking somewhat like a fern. The pale mauve or lilac, drooping flowers are cup shaped and are produced in loose clusters atop wiry stems in late summer. This plant grows from 18 to 24 inches high with a 20-inch spread. It is a native of Japan.
POTTING: Plant the False Anemone in moist, humus-rich soil (preferably acidic soil) in a shady, sheltered spot.
PROPAGATION: This plant may be increased by division in the spring or by sowing fresh seed in late summer.
VARIETIES: A. macrophylla.
