Garden Pest and Plant Disease Listing - TA
TARNISHED PLANT BUG: This is a sucking, shield-shaped insect about a quarter-inch long with yellowish and black spots. They damage the buds and fruits of a variety of fruits and vegetables. Check for the small, green nymphs (the most damaging stage) when the plants begin to bloom. Tap leaves and flower clusters over a shallow, white dish. If more than two nymphs fall in the dish per foot of row, consider applying a least-toxic pesticide specific for their control. Remove any misshapen fruits. Control with row covers, good sanitation, insecticidal soaps, sabadilla, or traditional insecticides.
