Garden Pest and Plant Disease Listing - SL

Slugs (and Snails): A snail is a shelled gastropod and a slug is basically a snail without a shell. These slimy pests eat foliage and fleshy stems, leaving holes and trails of slime. They prefer moist, shady places and often attack epiphytes. To destroy these pests, apply a preparation based on metaldehyde or set out poisonous traps. A barrier may be made by sprinkling slug pellets between plants or placing copper stripping between plants or looped around seedlings. The copper strip, which is usually about 3 inches wide, gives the slugs/snails a mild shock.

SLUG PUB (also called slug saloon): A trap, baited with beer, used to attract and drown slugs.
