Garden Pest and Plant Disease Listing - RE

RED STELE: Young and old leaves of affected plants lose their shine and wilt during hot weather. This root-rot fungus will eventually kill the plant. The center part (stele) of affected roots looks pink to red or brownish-red, instead of a healthy yellowish-white. Roots also blacken and/or rot. To control red stele, plant resistant varieties and grow them on well-drained soil in raised beds.

RED THREAD: This fungal disease results in red or pink thread-like strands on grass leaf blades. The turf will eventually appear soggy and then turn brown. Red thread is common in humid climates and under-fertilized lawns. To control this fungus, increase nitrogen fertilization, and adjust the pH, if necessary. Traditional fugicides can also be helpful.
