ORBICULAR: Nearly or completely circular, as an orbicular leaf. Also orbiculate.
ORCHARD: 1. A garden. 2. A piece of ground, usually enclosed, devoted to the cultivation of fruit trees, especially apple, pear, peach, plum, and cherry trees. A collection of cultivated fruit trees.
ORGANIC: Compounds containing carbon derived from decomposed animal or plant organisms. Is also used loosely of mulches, soil mix, etc. taken from plant materials.
ORGANIC GARDENING: A method of gardening using only organic materials, such as manure, peat moss, and compost, and rejecting inorganic material, such as rock phosphate, ammonium, insecticides, and pesticides.
ORTHOSTICHOUS: Exhibiting orthostichy; arranged in vertical ranks.
ORTHOSTICHY: A vertical rank; an arrangement of leaves or scales at different heights on an axis so that their median planes coincide, as the vertical ranks of leaves on a stem.
ORTHOTROPIC: Of or pertaining to or exhibiting orthotropism; growing more or less vertically.
ORTHOTROPISM: Vertical growth; the tendency of plants to grow more or less vertically.
ORTHOTROPOUS: A term describing a condition in which all parts of a seed grow in a straight line.
