ESCAPE: A plant that has escaped from cultivation and naturalized more or less permanently (i.e. Queen Anne's lace is an escaped carrot).

ESPALIER: 1. A trelliswork of various forms on which the branches of fruit trees or fruit bushes are extended horizontally, in fan shape, etc., in a single plane. The object it to provide better air circulation and sun exposure for the plants. 2. A tree or plant trained on such a trellis or system. Trees trained to espaliers aren't as liable to suffer abrupt variations of temperature as are wall trees. 3. To train on or protect by an espalier, as a tree or trees.

ESPATHATE: Lacking a spathe.

ESQUAMULOSE: Lacking minute scales; not squamulose.
