ASCENDING: Rising somewhat diagonally and curving upward.
ASCIDIUM: Any tubular, horn-shaped, or pitcher-like formationof a plant, usually arising from the union of the margins of a leaf or other organ. The ascidium, commonly known as a pitcher, is usually covered with a lid and contains a fluid in which insects are drowned and dissolved. Examples are the pitcher plants (Nepenthes and Sarracenia).
ASEXUAL: Not-sexual; having no sex. 2. Produced by other than sexual processes, as asexual reproduction. Asexual reproduction is any process of propagation that isn't effected by means of sexual organs, as when propagation is carried out by buds, offshoots, bulbs, etc.
ASPARAGUS-KNIFE: A tool for prying and pulling out long-rooted plants. Also called dandelion weeder or fishtail weeder.
ASPERIFOLIATE: Having rough-feeling leaves.
ASSIMILATION: The conversion of a substance taken into the living tissues of plants.
